Subtracting datetime

Hi,

Does anybody know to subtract the current date and time from a timestamp to produce the amount of time ramaining?

this will give you the time remaining in minutes .. replace 2003-10-12 12:00:00 with your datetime stamp.

echo number_format((strtotime('2003-10-12 12:00:00')-time()) / 60, 0, '', '') . ' minutes';

That code always gives -17766142 as the result no matter the date.

you sure the stamp is datetime? i tested it and it works ok.

I amended the code by removing the ' ' from date time variable.

echo number_format((strtotime($item[8])-time()) / 60, 0, '', '') . ' minutes<BR>';

It seems to work ok now, thanks. My error.

Hi seby,

It works but it's causing a few problem's.

Its rounding the minutes down.

When the time remaining is between 30secs - 1 min, the value is 1
When the time remaining is between 0secs - 30 secs, the value is 0

Also, instead of going from 0 to -1, it goes from 0 to -0.

I am trying to calculate a condition of less than 0 minutes.

Dunno where the -0 comes from, but you can control how the (...)/60 bit gets rounded by wrapping it in one of the functions [man]floor[/man], [man]ceil[/man] or [man]round[/man]. Probably get better results with those than with number_format.

Needless to say, of course, if you're dealing with an interval of less than a minute, and you're rounding things off to the nearest minute, then you're only going to have a very limited range of results.
