SQL Preference

Can anyone advise me how I could give specified recordsets preference when conducting a search.

Basically I want to give certain adverts preference over others, so that they will come out the top of a search, and then certain recordsets will be displayed underneath these priority records??

Add an extra column in the table priority. and then put an extra order by clause in the query?

Yes thats what I had thought.

My query was more how I would get it to order by preference for one group and then show the rest?

Can you give me an SQL example of how you would do it??

SELECT * FROM table ORDER BY field will order by field. If field is null it will go after all others.
You can put more than one in the order by field and they will be ordered by the first field then within each group they will be ordered by the second field.

add a field to that table called priority
set the default value to zero
all records with no preference are a zero
those that paid you get a number
they get a higher number if they pay you more

bob pays $30 - he gets a 2
joe pays $5000 - he gets a 9

select * from table order by priority desc;
