MYSQL Problem

Hello everyone, I am currently using MySQL as the database of choice. I have a big problem, when I first installed the database, I followed directions to put a password on the root user and successfully did it; however, I am able to login to the MySQL database just by simply typing mysql in the command prompt and logging in as an anonymous user I guess. How do I make it so that the only way to login is through the root/password and not the anonymous user because then anyone can just use my database. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using this on a Windows plat form?

Anyways the Mysql Manual should be able to help you please check out http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/User_Account_Management.html.

You need to restart the database for the changes to take affect. just keep this in mid as it might cause you some trouble when testing the permissions.

If you are using windows the default is to have no root password but only allow the system be to accessed from the localhost meaning that you are only able to access the database some the local computer that you are on and not remotly.

then what i said before really applies to you.. you should be able to use the mysql admin console to use the gui to change the permissions so that it requires a password to logon locally.

But people external to your local computer will be unable to access the database without using a password.
