Php + Mysql Help

I've got both to work where
my webpage containing forum abd login form and such
and be able to store into MYSQL and also checking to see
if valid user.
Well this was before I had to format my hard drive.
I've backed up all the webpage documents before I did.
Well When I reinstalled MYSQL and PHP.
It seems like my webpage is able to read the mysql database
since I see the forum running with valid data in SQL.
well I cant seem to login or post any message.
Seems like I can only call data from MYSQL and not able to send.
Like I said I did not touch anything with my php files.
Everything was kept on CD.

Funny thing is it is not giving me any error when I click log in
It seems like it just ignores it...
Can anyone please help me?

Since you reinstalled MySQL, it may have changed you MySQL user settings. Check your permissions. Change your php script to error_reporting(E_ALL) to get any errors, and add die statements with mysql_error() on your php scripts that are having a problem

But I am using root account as the user name.
Doesnt Root have all access anyway?
Also Whats DIE statements?

Well...using root is a bad idea. And root only has access if you give root access in MySQL.

Sorry to bother you again.
How do I set up mysql so that it gives root access?
I dont remember doing that before....

now I got everything else working....
i can log in and stuff but cant seem to write in database

You can either check in the manual for adding users and setting permissions, or download a front end GUI for it and use that...

I got almost everything to work now.
It was my php setting that was different.
I needed the Register Global to be ON.

Now I can login and stuff not Cant seem to make my forum work.
