Getting MYsql to Work

I 've just installed mysql using a gui base on redhat linux 9.0
I cant get it to work everytime i start my MYSQLD it starts but
when i run my MYSQL is prompt that :

ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: NO)

how do i correct it ?

Using root is a bad idea. I'd disable that account. But first, look here http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/Adding_users.html
