Image uploading butchering images

Hi all. I'm using a wysiwyg editor we purchased which has an image uploader, and for some reason whenever I upload images they're getting butchered during the upload.

The strange thing is when I upload the images to the demo version of the editor on the company's website from which we purchased it, it works fine.

Here are links to the images to show what I mean. The "good" images are the images I uploaded via the editor's image manager on the company's demo website, the "bad" images are images uploaded via the editor's image manager on my development site.

Since it works fine on theirs, but the images get garbled on mine, I'm figuring it's probably some setting in my php.ini or http.conf, but I can't say for sure.

Does anyone out there have any ideas which might point me in the right direction here?

Sorry, I should've added that the site is being served from a Dell Dimension desktop running Redhat 9.0, Apache 2.0 and PHP 4.2.2.

The Editor I'm using is DevEdit (http://www.devedit.com). You can see a demo of the editor (where the images do not get uploaded in ascii format) at http://www.devedit.com/online_html_editor_demo.php.

Open php.ini

Check that [FONT=courier new]magic_quotes_runtime = off[/FONT]

Let us know if it fixed your problems.

Nope, I'm still here ;o)

magic_quotes_runtime is set to off in my php.ini so that's not it.

I've never been able to pinpoint the cause of this problem.

It also started to affect large strings of text which were posted from a form as well.

I'd written a large CMS to run our website, and when text over a certain length (I can't remember the exact length right now) was posted, it would get garbled, and part of the text would be duplicated at the end of the string, or the string would be truncated, etc.

I tried replicating the problem on other servers with no success. Files uploaded fine, very, very large text strings were posted with no problem whatsoever.

This might be one which never gets figured out, but if anyone comes across this post and has any other ideas please let me know!

Wow a year?! I hadn't noticed!!

I was just reading through the manual today, entry by entry like you do :rolleyes: and I came accross the upload functions and a user's comment was saying about garbled image uploads and I thought "why not help my new discussion board's users with this problem and propose this possible solution?"

Sorry it couldn't be of any help. I recommend getting a new server if yours is acting strange like that. If it is your OWN server onsite or whatever then revamp the lot and fix the dripping tap by refitting the entire neighbourhood's pipworking 😃 so to speak...

of course its hard to recognise this kind of problems witout to know which functions are used. I fact if it is only one server with this kind of problems then replace the server...

Hey Guys,

i searched my head off to find this kind of a problem. Im running PHP5.0.5 (incl. php_gd2.dll on a apache server. Whenever i upload a jpg image to my server via my website gallery, something strange happens with the output.

Thumbnails are good, but if i view the image in full size, its seems like only part of the image is transferred correctly and there is a strange pattern covering the biggest part of the image.

I didn't know what to search for, so its not easy explaining what went wrong exactly, but here's a screenshot:

Your example shows a partly uploaded image. (check the orig. filesize and the one from the image you showed us)
The upload function is written by yourself?

no, its a Joombla Component from www.zoomfactory.org . I've tried other galleries and extensions. I used RS Gallery, Galleria and Zoom on GD2 and ImageMagick but they all give the same problem.

Max file upload 10mb configured in php.ini.

Orginal filesize: 160kb
Filesize on the server: 159,21kb

Here comes the strange part: If i go to my server directories and i download this image, its looks correctly. If i rightclick the image online, i can't view the filesize and when i click 'save as...' it wants to save as a BMP file.

With Firefox the corrupted part of the image doesnt consist of the strange "patternlike" blocks like in IE, but there's just a grey area.

Its a display problem btw, the image is in a correct version on the server. i downloaded an image and it displays correct. Could it be that i need another phpextension for displaying jpg images?

This is a direct link to an image on my server. If i approach the image with a direct url the same problem appears. But if i download it via the backend (or ftp explorer) the image isnt affected and i can view it normally. So the right bytes are on the server, but they dont get displayed how they should be...

I finally found a similar problem, however not precisely the same image distortion:

It says its a bug of apache 2.0. I don't want to downgrade to 1.3 so what to do next? I also dont want to disable particular errors, just want to solve this problem.
