client-side mysql access

I am looking for a way to connect to mymysql server, client side... not using php gtk, something perhaps like vbscript... I need something that will only run on the client side.... any ideas, I am completely lost... also any links to information would be great...

for netscape javascript has something called live conect an for IE you can just use activex

how about this for an idea...

I have GTK configured on my server... can a client connect to my server via the web and will the GTK run or is it that GTK must only be run from the computer with the webserver running???
