Undefined index

hi frnds!!

this is my first time in any php forum infact i m a newbie to php...

i've been workin in asp and now converting a website into php.

well, i'm tryin to trap the variables like submit to check whether form has been submitted or not..

well it works fine when i fill up the form and press submit.. no error.

but when i open the page it gives the following error..

Undefined index : submit

here submit is the id of the submit button.

infact any of the variable gives error when there is no data in it.

i've used $REQUEST[], $GET[], $_POST[]...

result is same.

plz help this newbie on the block.

Paste a little snippet of your code. Your syntax on your button may be a little off. Sometimes that can be a problem.

and your passing the varibles at the top of the script?

couple of things--
You probably want to include a hidden form field to check for (instead of submit) because if the user hits enter, instead of the submit button--no submit is ever passed--

the other thing---try $HTTP_POST_VARS["id"]

although in the form you posted, there is no field called id--you have one called numcontent, one called page, and one called submit
