Ok, so I had a piece of code that took the contents of a textarea and wrote it to a text file.

This all works fine on my server (winXP Apache latest PHP) but when I uploaded to my host (linux) the apostraphes were all converted to " \' ". I used stripslashes to get rid of them, but I was just wondering if anyone could tell me why this happens?

magic_quotes_gpc is ON by default.

So any data from POST GET COOKIES has the slashes added.

Have a look in the manual at stripslashes()
