Turn off echo on php://stdin

I have a program that reads from standard in and I have code to prompt the user for a password. For obvious reasons I don't want the password echoed to the screen. Is there anyway to not echo the password?

Been doing similar stuff using socket-based PHP scripts. I have not found a way -- if it was actually being processed by the script then you could prolly do something. However, since it's stdin, the script has no control over the input. 🙁

You probably need a little C program to do the password input, but for the life of me I can't remember how.

Age and lack of use catches up on these sort of things.
If you find the source for the passwd shell function it would prob. show how to do it.
