[Resolved] Mark as unread using cookies

Hi all.

The index page of a forum lists all threads.
When a user logs in, I want the forum to indicate which threads that are unread, or contain replys that are unread, or basically, which threads that have been posted since last visit.

Kind of like what is used on this forum. When you log in, threads that you haven't read are marked by a special icon.

I believe this can be done with cookies, but how?

You can save (using cookie) the last timestamp the user visited the forum. For each thread keep the last updated date. Then before showing the list of threads to the user just check if a thread has something new there for him/her.

But I'd rather save the data like last login, visit time for the users in the database. Cookie may not work for some users.
