It's really getting to me now.

Not the tinned meat, as gross as I find it, but the sheer volume of unsolicited junk mail that's floating around the net.

What should be done?

What do you do to prevent it on your machine?

How should a global legislation work and how could it be enforced?

What should the penalties be for spammers?

How will the makers of alleged meat based foodstuff (debatable) survive, will they rename their product "Unsolicited Commercial Email" "Penis Enlargement" "Medical Patch" or "Teen Twin Lesbians" I know the one I'd be most likely to buy! 😃

I know it's been discussed all over the place but I'd like to hear the views of the people who code the internet for valid and good reasons while others try to profiteer from bringing it down by cluttering it with ****

4) Footer size:
We need to limit this to 5 lines. Obviously if there are 20 posts on a page and we allow more, we'll end up with 100 extra lines to scroll when reading messages.

Spammers should be denied access at the server level. I've heard it said that if you deny them connections, they don't get paid for delivery. I'm not sure I believe it, but I like the idea of being proactive (send 'em a 550) instead of just > /dev/null . I do like the Baynesian filter on the Mozilla client, though --- maybe even soon, I'll trust it!! (woot!)

A few months ago I started tracking spam header IP's and adding them to hosts.deny on my server. If I get spammed from 3 or more addys in the same class C, then entire Class C gets banned. Same/similar thing for class B AND class A.

But, I'd have to admit I've been a little lax lately on the proactive front. And then there was this FBSD developer who called (me? or my server?) stupid in front of the entire list ... turns out his primary MX is in some class A that I'd blocked ... it's not like he lives in Niue, right? Hmm, wonder if I blocked all of *.nu ... serves 'em right, sez I....

i love spam, it makes me feel special that they are looking out for me and send me FREE OFFERS and such.. (hint: sarcasm)

anyways, im too lazy to deal with in-depth spam filters, etc,etc. so i just make a 'junk' or 'nospam' email address, and everything i know will generate spam goes there, then i setup an email filter to send everything under that acct to the trash..
