how do i encode $variable data?

Hi,

i am trying to encode the output of a variable from a form POST

for example,

<?php
$mylink = "http://www.wherever.com/flower1.jpg";
echo "$myname";
?>

how would i encode this link? i dont want anyone to know what the filename is (flower1.jpg) because i will have a flower2.jpg flower3.jpg etc, and the image could be guessed at to download. i wish to keep the location secret.

right, but i want the echo to output a scrambled link.. like :

[url]http://%77%77%77%2E%73%74%6F%63%6B%69%6D%61%67%65%73%63%61%6E%61%64%61%2E%63%6F%6D/%66%6C%6F%77%65%72%31%2E%6A%70%67[/url]

....
(btw that link dosnt point anywhere) but thats the idea.
