File searching

I am trying to search a network of about 10 computers for a log file stored on each computer. Open each file and copy the contents into a file on the server. I can do just about all of this if I keep it on one computer but I don't know how to search on the network. Nothing I have read appears to have a simple solution for searching over a network and I wondered if anyone has a good starting point for me?

The basics are pretty easy--You just need to map those netwrorked computers on your machine--

What if I can't map them? As I can't predict when or whether any more will be added to the network, is there anyway of just having a search that will go and look for all the currently connected PC's and then pull off the log files?

What protocol/service would you use if you wanted to grab each file manually? If every machine is a www server, then it could be as easy as pointing a docroot or symlink at this file.

Probably what you really need is LDAP support, which is available for PHP but not configured by default. www.php.net/ldap
