onclick echo code

Herewith, the code I'm trying to get to work with Layers.
Objective: Read some quiz from a database, display it on Layer1, get an Answer, display its validity and the right answer when the "Answer" button is pressed.

I wasn't able to reply in the original thread. How come?

The code was:

1. setup Layer1
2. set variables for Layer2
3. setup Layer2
4. do database work
5. display Layer1, with onclick showing Layer2 with variables from 2.

The variables were never showing up

By moving 2. and 3. tothe bottom of the code, all is right with the world.

It makes no sense to me, but it now works.
