this is all based on other people's opinions; i have no real background in enterprise-level PHP.
But as far as i can see, people generally go for the 'other' languages because of the companies backing them, and specifically their support. If there was just one company selling PHP support, im sure many enterprises would jump on the bandwagon.
but this is also where PHP gets it good reputation among internet hackers. it is open source; noone controls it. while a plus for many developers, for quite a few contractors it is sub-optimal, if not pessimal.
There is no reason from a technical standpoint why PHP should be foregone in favour of some other language. sure other languages have nice little features, but with a little care any PHP application can be just as organized as one written in ASP or JSP. In fact, it's webscripting features often surpass those of the afore-mentioned!
so to conclude, it is my opinion that if you are a competant PHP programmer you can easily write web applications that meet and surpass the standards of those coded in other languages.
