getDate()

I'm currently using the getDate() function to return the existing month. My problem is that I was to be able to alter the month by incrementing or decrementing and get it to display the correct month.

Does anyone have any ideas how I could do this?

$date = getdate();
$month = $date['month'];
echo $month;

Done a little bit more thinking about this, but I'm still not sure about the best way to acheive what I'm after.

Basically when a page is loaded, I want to display a calendar with this month.

I have the display all sorted out, from here I want to click a button and go to the next month. The month is incremented and the new calendar is shown.

The way I have set it at the moment using getDate will only allow me to increment by a maxium of 1.

Any ideas anyone??
