syntax error

Hi all,

I am putting together a link, but it does not recognize the name of the link. ($filename) I want the link to be called like the filename...

$filename = $_FILES['userfile']['name'];
$fileloc = '<a href=' . $filelocation . '>$filename</a>';

I thought I would just have to put it in quotes, but it didn't work. Where is that stupid mistake, can anybody help??

You have 2 choices(or more but these are the good ones 🙂):

$filename = $_FILES['userfile']['name']; 
$fileloc = '<a href="' . $filename . '">'.$filename.'</a>';

or..

$filename = $_FILES['userfile']['name']; 
$fileloc = "<a href='$filename'>$filename</a>";

it works just fine, but I changed it slightly from yours..

$filename = $_FILES['userfile']['name'];  

$fileloc = '<a href=' . $filename . '>'.$filename.'</a>';

If you want to directly print a variable using print/echo , you must use "'s (double). If you insist on using ''s(single), you're going to have to escape it as follows:

print 'Value:'.$value.' okay bye!';

A bit of a mistake, that; according to the HTML standard, attribute values SHOULD be quoted (and in XHTML they MUST).

It explicitly allows both single and double quotes (though the W3C themselves prefer double).
