call to undefined function mysql_connect() ?!

I had RedHat 7.2 installed with php and mysql running beautifully.
I aquired RedHat 8.0 and attempted to upgrade it. This caused much havoc so I just installed fresh.
I did a tape archive of usr/local/

after I installed RH8.0 I tar -x the tape of /usr/local and all my mysql files are there. I can even run mysql from a shell.

I tar -x my website and when I tried to run it I get "Call to undefined function mysql_connect()
do I have to reconfigure and make the mysql again?

you need the php-mysql package that integrates the 2.

do rpm -q php-mysql
and you'll find that you probably don't have it. RH 8 also ships with an older package for php.
get the updated packages for php from redhat or rpmfind.net

I am having the same problem with Mepis 2004.05Beta. Can anyone help me out....???
