It's a real drag....

I've built a PHP application (an online database thingy) and when I go in and view an item, then press the back browser on my browser (Internet Explorer) to return to the previous page, I keep getting a blank page appearing that simply says "PostNotCached".

Does anyone know the cause of this and a way to cure the problem?

you are trying to reload a previous page that used FORM data that was POST'ed to it.... hitting back doesnt rePOST the form data so the data is not cached -- generally you can hit 'refresh' and it can recall the posted data and resubmit it....

if it is a simple form, use GET instead of POST to submit the data - then you should also be able to use the back button properly!

Can I just ask one last question before I mark this one as resolved????

Basically the thing that's worrying me is that when I use "GET", suddenly I have a *****MASSIVE**** URL at the top of the page.

Is that a potential problem or is this a normal and acceptable thing?

Oh Dear!

I've just noticed a problem.

I've changed everything to the GET method, and if I do a search then first time round it works fine! Horay!!! But if I then go back to the original form and try another search, it keeps bringing me the same results as I got from the first search.

And basically, no matter what I do, it keeps returning the results of my first search.

This is a pretty serious problem. Do you think I should maybe just revert back to using POST?

the potential problem is, that a url has a maximum length and will cut your string after (i think) 1024 characters (correct me if im wrong - im too lazy to verify that and just cant remember for sure)
