Using same session or cookie across multiple domains

I am in the process of building a shop system for a client which will be based around one domain name
eg theshop.com .
Other areas of the shop will be listed under different domain names such as fishingshop.com for fishing tackle and so on.

My problem is that if one person buys something in one shop and then moves from theshop.com to fishingshop.com it loses all of the $_SESSION data.

Is there any way to combat this?

use your own sessions and not the ones in php.

use a class, mysql table to store the session id and variables and call that class each page load instead of $_session one. this is all providing your sites can access the same mysql database tables.

They are accessing the same tables, i'm holding cart entries in one table, sessions in another and so on. The trick is passing the Session ID between sites.

I tried setting a cookie but that didn't work as it would only read cookies that have come from the correct domain.

At the moment i have put a work-around in where i pass the SESHID with the link and then rebuild the session on the new site. It isn't a totally satisfactory result though.

should work if you code your own session script, how good are you at php? u might find an already coded one here somewhere or on hot scripts if u cant do one yourself. i never use php sessions, i always use my own.

TheIceman5's solution won't work because you can't have cookies that are set across multiple domains. This has nothing to do with session handlers, PHP or your own ones.

An solution might be to set 'X' number of cookies, one for each domain they could visit.

You could also just not use cookies, and pass the session ID through the URL instead. Probably the best solution.
