bbcode quote parse

Im haveing a small problem with a bbcode parser...

it wont parse the quote, if theres a newline or a <br /> in the quote text...

the parser just outputs the [.quote] text [/quote] in the html (ignore the . )

heres the regex function im using to parse the quote tag:

$input = preg_replace('/([quote])(.+?)([\/quote])/i', '<blockquote><i>\2</i></blockquote>',$input);

the (.+?) is supposed to be any number of any characters right? what can I put in there to include the characters in <br /> or /n ?

It should be matching <br />, still; there's probably a newline character next to each one. Anyhoo; you'll want an 's' modifier as well as an 'i' on the end of the expression. Without it, "." matches any character except a newline.

I would also suggest not using / as your regex delimiter. HTML and forum tags always use / , it is easier to use some other char like # or !.
