2 button options on a form

i have a form which allows people to enter some text and upload a file linked with that text, what i want to be able to do is give them the option just to add text and not upload a file, how would i do that on the page? i thought straight away add another button but then how do i define where the second button posts too?

You can have two submit buttons with different names. Then in the processing part of the script, branch your code according to which was pressed.

<? if ($_POST['submit1']) { //do something }
elseif ($_POST['submit2']) { // do something else }
else { // neither was pressed } ?>

I did npt get why you need to submit buttons. You may just check if the user selected some file to be uploaded or not. Something like this:

if($_FILE['file_fiedd']['name']){
   // save the file
}
else{
   // the user has not selected the file. do something else
}
