retrieving dates between today and last 7 days

I have date field entered in mysql as "Tue, 4 Nov 2003 21:41:27" Now, I would like to pull out the records of users who log in to the system in the past seven days. How can I change the field strings to time and return only the records that are within 7 days?

WHERE (UNIX_TIMESTAMP() - UNIX_TIMESTAMP(date_field_name)) < 7*86400

where date_field_name is the name of your date field.
