Hi all

Anyone been doing anything interesting with PHP and the Google API (or the Amazon API)? I've just got the basics working with Google and I'm about to start playing with it. There's not a lot of documentation about PHP and the API. The Google Hacks book is fantastic, but it uses Perl. I've tried several of the Perl scripts and they're excellent. My favourite one just for fun is mindshare.cgi

Btw, if anyone else is using the O'Reilly book, the PHP script (Hack 55) is faulty. It may have worked at the time of going to press, but it doesn't now. I suspect that nusoap.php has changed. Don't try using a local copy of the wsdl file - it won't work. You need to enter the SOAP client call as http://api.google.com/search/beta2

i know it's been a while since your post, but last night i set up amazon soap to list books on my site by keyword. you can then click on a title and view more information, including user reviews.

my client wants site users to be able to add reviews to these books - these reviews will be stored on the site, not amazon, but have to seemlessly integrate. Thinking of joining them by ISBN or ASIN - not sure.

Your idea sound excellent. Could you reveal the URL for your site so that I can check it out?

I've been doing stuff with PHP/XML/XSLT over Christmas, which was extremely educational (try this: http://www.experiment.scotreal.info/litesite.php). I'm planning to get some Google stuff incorporated into my website this year. There are a couple of very basic scripts at my website, but nothing useful yet. They simply prove that the API works with PHP and Perl.

i'll post a url tomorrow, for two reasons. Firstly, then it will be hosted on the web, rather than on my laptop and so won't dissappear whenever i disconnect, and secondly because i have a few tweaks to make to it.

Now, as well as linking non-amazon customer reviews (which i've done using ISBN as a linking field), the client wants to put his own images in for if there is not an amazon image for the book.
