Help!

I have a situation:
I can't seem to find anyway of protecting files like .zip or .pdf download. But I know that files like .html .php can be protected easily.

For example, I could password protect a particular webpage (eg. Download.html), but I cannot protect the downloadable .zip file in that download page because anyone who knows the url of the .zip file can just type it in the web browser and download it without going through the download.html page.

How then can I protect that particular .zip file from being downloaded without permissions?

Would really appreciate any help.

i have looked into .htaccess before.

Not too sure whether to use it tough.

how can i use .htaccess with mySql as the db of username and password instead of the .htpasswd ?

or you can store the actual files in a database and then it requires php to retrieve the files since they do not exist on your server.

this is an old tutorial so you'll have to modify it to use the files array
