include() error.

hey i tried to include a simple txt file in php
and this is the error i get:

"Warning: main(.txt): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:---\Apache2\htdocs\test.php on line 7

Warning: main(): Failed opening '.txt' for inclusion (include_path='.;c:\apache\apache2\php\includes') in C:---\Apache2\htdocs\test.php on line 7"

This is the code i used : "<?php include ("$test.txt"); ?> "

the file is in the same place as the test.php is...
i don't get it?

i guess it's probably a config thing in the apache server or the php module? or maybe i'm doing the code wrong?

$test is seen as a variable, so until it is defined, it's empty.

If you do

<?php 
$test = "NameOfPage";
include($test.".txt"); 
?>

you will effectively be saying
include("NameOfPage.txt");

well... $test is the name of a variable, so if you were trying to open a file name, say "content.txt" you would have to define $test as "content" first, like so:

$test = "content";
include($test . "txt");

keep in mind though that include() tries to execure the file as if it were PHP code, so if you are trying to just place the content of "content.txt" inside your page it would be more like this:

<html>
<head><title>test</title></head>
<body>
<p>below should be the content of "content.txt":
<p><?php echo(file_get_contents("content.txt")); ?>
</body>
</html>

ok now i'm getting some where, here is an addon question for this
now i have this code:

"<?php
if(!$site || $site == ""){$site = "news";} ?>
<?php
$news = "news";
$news2 = "news2";
include("$news.html"); ?> "

now as far as i understand the first line makes news the default page of the index.php . thats how i want it to be 🙂

now i have a link on the index.php that says "/index.php?site=news2"

but when i press it it stays on news , how can i make it load the new page insted?
