all problems resolved, need to make username/password

Well I am a happy fellow! I got mySQL all set up and the databases are working. So far I have one client program that is working very well with mySQL. Now I'm trying to install a second, but it requires a username and password. I don't know how to set the username and password for it, so i would appreciate it if somebody could please tell me the commands.

Are we talking about a username and password to use the database? If you set up the mysql daemon, you should know this information.

If it's a matter of telling the aforementioned program the username and password, most programs have you edit a config.php or similar file to specify explicit information like that.

What application are you trying to use, and did you read its README file? 🙂

No no it's not the client that has a password that i need. it's the database. I didn't set anything up (i don't think) with mySQL, I just downloaded it and used it. As of now I don't think that there is a set password. Can you please tell me what the command is to create one? And also is there a command to view the current username? Thanks

The default user is root with no password.

The client that I'm using has an "automatic" setup and requires that the password field be filled in, so there is no way for me to do this now without making a password for woot :mad:
