Clever PHP.net search page.

Cleverly done on PHP.net site.

Any idea how is it done ? I had a look on the HTML source and can't spot what's in there that enables this input text feature.
Is it the accesskey tag ?

How is this done using PHP and Javascript ?

PHP.net is just beta testing the same feature on the search page. Try selecting the 'function list' lookup option and start typing in a function name in the search field. You can autocomplete the name with the space key and navigate in the dropdown with the up and down cursor keys.

Nope, looking at the souce didn't help much.

Is it done with a Javascript ? If yes, what event is triggered here.

Okay, Auto-help comes from PHP database, but how does it work ?

How does the list start getting narrower when u start keying in the letters ? That must be the Javascript surely ?

And what is in the HTML tag of the input type=text that does this trick ?

Any more info ???

If you see it on the page, you'll ALWAYS find something in the source.

At the bottom of the source, there's a footer: site_footer(array("functionsjs"));

So, if you hit http://us2.php.net/functions.js you can download the file that presumably, is the javascript that handles all of that. However, in an attempt to baffle snoopy people like us, PHP has squeezed the entire file onto a single line making it unbelievably cryptic.
