AVI Player Help

Hi guys,

What I'm trying to do here is to learn something about video/audio player...how they deal with mpeg, avi, etc....files.

How do I read an avi file?

Any docs will be helpfuly in my case 🙂

PHP really isn't suited to reading video files due to their sheer size, it would be extremely resource intensive.

Nonetheless, you can get some docs on video file formats
here

[edit]FYI, most video files have some form of complex compression algorithms and thusly, about the only thing you could realistically do with these files in PHP is maybe read in their length, codec etc.[/edit]

Anarchyh thanks for the response.

I found a project in sourcesafe called GetId3 and used it to get the data from an avi file.

I got the all the info, but my problem now is how I read the binary information from the ['movi'] chunk.

P.S: My inicitial intention was to make an avi player using gtk. Don't know if it's possible.
