file upload problem

hello,

could anyone tell me what error I have....

I am using an Apache (2) and PHP (4).... now I have a file upload script that run on another linux system already. On my new system I can´t find out why it not runs.

I think it is a configuration error.

I checked the $file_name object after submit the multipart/form and it is empty.

what does it output?

look for an index called "error" it should be 0 (zero) otherwise something went wrong

file-uploads are allowed?
temp-directory for file-uploads exists?

I get the right file information:

However the object $file_name is empty.

than appearently register_globals is off

instead of $file_name you have to use $_FILES['file']['name'] and everything should be fine

oh yeah that was the problem I forgot my php configuration :-)

But now my question "is_uploaded_file($_FILES['file']['name'])" returns false......

In this reason I can´t move the uploaded file after that too

you have to pass ['tmp_name'] instead of ['name'] if you want to check with is_uploaded_file

thx for your help it runs well.

however I think my php (4.4.3/6 Rawhide ) runs incorrect. After upload my filesize is bigger as before (aprox. double size)

Additional the JPEG Header Information are incorrect.

what do you mean by "after upload"?

I mean after upload and move or copy of file to a specified location (the temporary file is already incorrect). If I copy a file to another file on the server all shows good. The problem I have only with uploaded files.

which sizes differ?

the file has $FILES['file']['size'] bytes and if you do move_uploaded_file($FILES['file']['tmp_name'],'uploaded-files/'.$_FILES['file']['name']) the file should keep this size

or do you mean windows explorer show's a different size than your ftp-client viewing the online version of this file at the server?

After upload I can see (for example with midnight commander) that the temporary file is bigger as the original file. (about the double size). Then I move or copy the file to another location on the server the filesize is the same as the temp-file (bigger as original). Further if I try to open the JPEG with an Internet Browser it shows nothing. If I try to open the JPEG with PHP (like methode createjpeg) I get the error that the file isn´t a valid JPEG.

In this reason I think I lost file header information at file upload or the file structure will be changed at file upload.
