New to Linux, need help

Hello everybody

I would like to learn more about setting up linux servers for PHP programming. I'm looking for some guidelines to build a linux server from the scratch with PHP, MySql and Apache running in it. If anybody know where i can find the step by step guide to build a linux server will be grateful if you can let me know.

1. get a server

2. d/l some free linux (i prefer slackware)

3. install it (duh!), WITHOUT X if you want to only run a server

4. d/l php (latest stable), mysql(4.0.16), & apache(2.0.48) into /usr/local/src/ (customary source dir)

5. untar/gunzip them

6. follow the instructions in the MySQL INSTALL file

7. cd into httpd-2.0.48/ and run ./configure --enable-so (you can add more stuff later)

8. run 'make && make install' to compile

9. head over to the PHP Manual and browse trough all the extensions you want. if you need more stuff d/l and compile it

10. cd into ../php-x.x.x/ and run ./configure with all the modules you need (they tell you their config options on their manual page) AND with --with-apxs2=[apache2 bindir]/apxs

11. make && make install

12. tell us if you have problems. you're lucky i have nothing better to do right now, your question was rather vague.
