Variables in email

In language.php, I have:

$message = 'hello :' . $name;

The code for require.php:

include('language.php');
$name = 'booyah';
mail ($to, $sub, $message, 'From: [email][e-mail][/email]');

I get the mail fine but the message looks like this:

hello :

and the name variable's value is not shown... how come?

can you echo it out on the page anywhere, are you sure you are getting the variable through

also you can write that line like

$message = "hello : $name";

Look like stuff's in the wrong order. You include() a page, then set a $var, and expect the included page to know about the var that doesn't exist at the time you included it... and that doesn't even begin to think about scope.... :eek:

Well I include the page first, and then create the variable that it is supposed to use so I don't see why it won't work.

for better understanding you can replace the include with the content of the included file, so

//language.php
$message = 'hello :' . $name;

//require.php
include('language.php');
$name = 'booyah';
mail ($to, $sub, $message, 'From: [email][e-mail][/email]');

becomes

$message = 'hello :' . $name;
$name = 'booyah';
mail ($to, $sub, $message, 'From: [email][e-mail][/email]');

got it now?
