Well I'm building a webpage for a videocollection.

Well my question is, when I have a form to ad movies.
I want to have a browsebutton where I can chose an avi-file.

After when I click submit that not the movie is uploaded but just the properties of the movie like wich videocompression it holds is stocked in the database.

Is this possible on a webbased page with php coding?

I know that when you rightclick on a avi and click on properties you can view the kind of videocompression that is been used

With this you can get all the info about the avi file between other.

sorry mate but this wasn't really the kind of thing that I was looking for.

The thing(script) should retrieve the properties from an avi on my harddisk and insert it in to a database.

Does somebody know if this is possible?

I think this is a javascript problem if you don't want to upload the file.

seems that this is not possible on client side with javascript
maybe with php it's possible will keep looking

how are you getting them right now? i mean, how are you retrieving the properties manually? or are you not even there yet? and what properties exactly do you need?
