getimagesize() from remote URL ERROR!!!

I am trying to generate thumbnails on the fly from a remote server that contains images.
I've tried several "Thumbnails generator" classes but i keep stoping with the same error:

"Warning: getimagesize(http://london/backoffice/files/aveirobasket/11-11-2003_1068573371_53_27.gif): failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 401 Access Denied"

(The url above is from a local network, and the file exists...)

I have "allow_url_fopen = On" in php.ini

if i try with a local file there is no problem. With a remote one, it dosen't work!

Can anyone help?

in order to access that folder or computer where the image resides do you have to enter a password in order to gain access to it? im pretty sure thats the problem. if you know it, try using

getimagesize(http://USERNAME😛ASS@london/backoffice/files/avei...73371_53_27.gif);
