How do I do a 'Unit Total' using php? Let me explain:

$entered_data is an integer that could be of any number of digits e.g.

25487965.

To get the 'unit total' one would have to keep adding together all the digits until the answer is a single digit thus:

2+5+4+8+7+9+6+5 = 46
4+6 = 10
1+0 = 1

So, the unit total of 25487965 works out to 1

Similarly the unit total of 986879874 is 3.

Can someone help with a code to achieve this?

There may be some simpler way of doing this, but this works:

$int_str = 25487965; 
//SPLIT STRING INTO ARRAY....................
$int_str = preg_split ("//", "$int_str");
//SUM ARRAY...........................................
$int_str = array_sum($int_str);  // 46

//DO ALL OVER AGAIN.............................
$int_str = preg_split ("//", "$int_str");
$int_str = array_sum($int_str);  // 10

//AND ONCE MORE..................................
$int_str = preg_split ("//", "$int_str");
$int_str = array_sum($int_str);  // 1

//THE FINAL SUM IS:
$sum = $int_str;
print $sum;

Though you slightly misunderstood the problem, I found my solution in your reply. You asssumed that the number to be resolved into a unit total was 25487965. I had merely used that as an example. It could be just any number having any number of digits, in short a VARIABLE entered by a user in a form field and submitted. Therfore it becomes necessary to create a loop to continue the array_sum process as long as the total is more than 1 digit i.e. >9. The moment the total drops to 9 or less, the array_sum process will stop, giving us a single digit. The html form is given below the php code to make up the complete file 'unit_total.php' and 'B1' is the name of the submit button. So, this is how I reworked your idea:

while($nnumber>9)

{
//SPLIT STRING INTO ARRAY....................
$nnumber = preg_split ("//", "$nnumber");
