libxml2 and php5 intsall

I'm attempting to install PHP 5.0.0b2 on a Mandrake 9.1 machine with Apache 2.0.48, but every time that I run ./configure I get the following error:

configure: error: xml2-config not found. Please check your libxml2 installation.

I have checked and I know that I have the libxml2 rpm is installed. I have even removed it and reinstalled but I still get the error. Is there something that I might be missing or could this be a bug in the installer?

i trying these:
--with-libxml-dir=/usr/lib/ (or ) --disable-libxml
can't both of them!

i have install libxml2

upgrade libxml to 2.6.2

install it in /usr/local/lib

reconfigure php with "--with-libxml-dir=/usr/local/lib"

can do it now!
