I need help debugging.

$date_=_preg_replace("/<!--\s?BEGIN date\s?-->(.+?)<!--\s?END date\s?-->/i",_"<pubdate>$3</pubdate>",_$data);

When using that I get an error

Parse error: parse error, unexpected '\"' in /usr/www/users/shafey7s/projects/index.php on line 50

why do you have _preg_replace. It should be preg_replace

Also, why the question marks? Do you really want to be checking for 0 or 1 of the preceding characters? If you want to use them literally, you need to use \?. And, in your replacement, why use $3? It looks like you are only capturing into $1 (only one set of capturing parenthesis).

i have sample data here

$data="<html><head><!-- BEGIN date-->Wednesday, November 12, 2003<!-- END date --></head></html> ";

i want to be able to just have the code date displayed along with the replacents for begin date and end date

heres how im replacing those

$date = preg_replace("/<!--\s?BEGIN date\s?-->(.+)<!--\s?END date\s?-->/i","<pubdate>$1</pubdate>",$data);

here is the output

<html><head><pubdate>Wednesday, November 12, 2003</pubdate></head></html>

here is what i need

<pubdate>Wednesday, November 12, 2003</pubdate>
