2 users, same name on MySQL?

Hi,

I would be grateful if anyone can help with this....

I have an application that runs on to different servers, one has a password set against the 'root' user, the other does not. It was workning fine until one of the servers was rebuilt. Now It only works on one Server.

My question: can I have a user 'root' without a password AND a user 'root' WITH a password?

The database is MySQL.

I think this must be possilble (as it was working), but when I add a user 'root' it overwrites the current one!!!

MySQL can't have a single username with diffferent passwords on the same server.

Well it certainly looks that way.....

However, I still think it can be done.

I am now managing to connect with and without password, but it not perfect (only connects about 40% of the time on one Server).

root@locahost (with password)
@ (without password)
or
root@% (without password)
or
root@nodename (without password)

Im not sure the best combination, but im certain one of these ways did work. Honestly it did work!!
