Mail Functions

Hi,

I am about to start to write an online mail program. i was wondering if anyone could help me with the process. I know how to do most everything however I'm not quite sure on how to receive messages. so if anyone could help me out that would be great! thanks!

PHP has a lot of (optionally compiled in) IMAP functions, which will address both POP and IMAP servers.

Just for curiousity's sake though, can I ask why you're writing this? Unless it's for education, there's probably a fairly decent app already in existence ... it's usually more cost effective to just grab a product instead of designing and writing your own. (I will admit, though, I like knowing exactly what's what....)

if you are writing a mailserver that accepts incoming mails directly by SMTP, then that script will run from PHP-CLI (command line interface) only and not as a script.

whereas you are just looking foreard to reading the mail recieved the server running in linux, then you will need to read the mail folder in linux and analyse file, contents there to achieve the task

you mught like to have look at source codes of squirrelmail (squirrelmail.org) and neomail (neomail.org)
