if i want the user to be able to download a file only if a certain condition has been satisfied, how can i achieve that ?

so depending on your condition the url will only appear if your string is = to yes
ok but i want if he click on the link it will display him a message where he want to save the song but by putting the link it will only run the song
well then you'll want to look into forcing the save as dialog box with content-type headers even for known file types, search the forum for this, there are many discussions on this matter
a simpler way would be to tell the people downloading that they have to right click and save as blah
not a very elagant solution, IMO
