Check if url exists

I am wondering if there is an option in apache that you can change to see if the url or file exists. I know in IIS5 there is an option when adding php mime types to see if the file exists.

I am trying to access this page on my web site http://datadink.sytes.net/m/mdd/desc.php/gcdFUDPIU4Z/he_sm_upload.gcd

But i keep getting page not found.
