Multiuser forms

I am trying to learn more about how to built forms for updating databases that can be used by multiple users at once. I am not sure where to start so if someone could point me in the right direction that would be great. One of my first issues is 'what methods are available?' For example do I lock the form? if so then how? Or do I use a system like cvs uses for merging changes? maybe I can integrate cvs into my form?

The time it takes to update a record in a database should be seemless. Should never be a need to lock the record during update unless you have so many users constantly battling for the same record, which would have to be thousands of users really.

Well here is the situation: I have two users editing the same record. User A opens the form, makes changes and while User A is making changes, User B opens the form and makes changes too. Then User A submits his changes to the DB. Then User B submits his changes overwriting the changes of User A. So I don't see how the timing is an issue.

u cant know when a user is looking at ur form or about to make changes to the form that may affect another users changes ... this isnt a problem with web technologies really ... its the same in any multi-user system where many users are editing db records
