Which language?

I am trying to decide what language to use.
I need to create a web based help desk tracking system. Do you think php would serve this purpose? The site will have to be searchable and would need to email approperiate people after a shift is completed. Please exuse my grammer, english is not my first language.

php can do that, so can perl and java and c and c++ it's all in the types of things you want it to do. If you're happy with html based forms then php is probably a good bet. If you want it to work more like a standard windows app then java is probably a better bet. However this is a pretty large scale app for a beginer no matter the language.
