help with localhost

Hi all

my notebook died and I had to setup everything again.

I am running Windows XP Pro and installed php 4 and apache 1.3x. I have been following guide for configuration etc and
all seems ok until I create a php page in Dreamweaver MX with a phpinfo() section in there.

When I try to preview this I get a cannot find page message.

Strange, if I try an http://127.0.0.1 I get the apache - "you have reached apache page", but not http://localhost - this gives page not found

In desperation I stopped Apache, installed IIS, configured the home page for php and stopped/started IIS and still the same.

So let us forget php, in dreamweaver just trying to preview a blank html page gets the same result

Yes - Dreamweaver website IS under inetpub/wwwroot where iis expects it
hosts in /windowsroot/system32/drivers/etc/ has got localhost mapped to 127.0.0.1

What is going on??

Do I need to setup a loopback tcp connection?? dont remember doing this before - if so how do I do it??

Folks, pleeeeeeeeeeease help me configure php and localhost correctly

http://search.shopnav.com/apps/epa/epa?cid=shnv9885&s=localhost

Hi George - I've just started PHP & I'm having the same problem of the 404 error.

Have you found a solution to it?

Interesting thing is, when I first call a page e.g.

http://locahost/test.php

I get the 404, but on clicking enter again, the page displays! This is ,of course, no good especially when using forms to pass values & the page being called on submit initially returns the 404!

Please let me know if you've found a solution.

MikoMak - everything really is down to how you configure php and your web server.

I still need to find what is wrong but there are excellent guidlines for configuration at -

Anyone who is reading this - look at my previous post - the information there is invaluable, here are my mistakes -

Excellent. I eventually spotted my stupid mistakes - I never setup localhost and 127.0.0.1 in the Apache config!! I used the information the wizard suggested .... WRONG!

What a fool I am...
