<? include ('sidebar.php); ?> Not working for me. It doesn't insert the code in the left column. Don't have clue as to why either. I have even tried to insert the (sidebar.php) into my pages, but everything gets put out of place also. Can someone please explain what I am doing wrong.

The other one, your missing the semi-colon at the end of the statement.

That was just a typo on my part puting it here. Even with the correct code it doesn't work. It's weird it works on one website but not the current one that I am working on. If it works in one why not the other?

If you want help with your code, you need to paste the code exactly as it appears in your php file. There is nothing more frustrating than giving help only to be told "I already tried that," or "oh, that was just a typo."

It's possible that you don't have short tags enabled. Use <?php and ?> instead of <? and ?>.

Well I'm not trying to be insulting or anything but is your PHP install set up so that you can use <? as an opening?

Most php installs use <?php by default. If your setup does not support the other, this would be a problem.

My server is with GoDaddy.com and my hosting package has PHP, CGI, PERL, and MySQL.

Well you just have to make sure they have short_open_tag turned on in there php.ini file

If that is on then you can use <? as well <?php

Unless you are the administrator on that partivular server, the ISP would have to reset it.

Just use <?php as the opening tag and you'll be fine.

for instance:

<?php include ('http://www.ngcs.biz/sidebar.php'); ?>

also, don't use [url]http://[/url] to refer to the file unless you plan on calling it from another server; just reference it either in a relative or absolute path and you'll be fine. Just make sure that if you are using a relative path that it is relative to the base file that calls all includes. Else, including an include within an include of another include could get messier and more confusing than it already is...heh.

Well, that didn't work either and because I didn't fully understand what you were trying to convey. Since I really don't know much about PHP--except that someone did the site for me, and it is up to me to troubleshoot and fix it. I have been thinking about creating a table within a table and going back to using HTML with CSS. Because I am at a lost as to what to do next with this PHP? However, I really do appreciate all of your time and effort to try and explain things to a PHP dummy. Thanks again.

Well don't get discouraged. If you are not used to programming, PHP is one of the easier scripting languages to learn and if you are the only one maintaining the site and don't have a huge budget, I'd highly encourage you to continue with learning PHP.

Don't give up so easily. If you realy want to learn and make your site more dynamic and link it up with a database, I highly suggest picking up a book on PHP. The Publisher Sams makes some GREAT books for beginners and since you already have an install on your server to play with, it's probably a good idea to learn it (especially since you aren't having to install it yourself).

I am currently trying to read "PHP/MySQL Programming: for the Absolute Beginner," by Andy Harris. It is still difficult reading. And, I need to fix this problem now! At this point, I would just as soon place the sidebar.php script in the 24 pages that I am currently trying to work on. I have lost at least 36 hours, with very little sleep, trying to fix this problem.

Hard to troubleshoot when you don't know what you are doing in the first place. Therefore, I am still looking for some help if someone out there is will to go the extra mile and help me--as I would. Thanks.

if the file ur including isnt in the the same folder as the file your trying to include it in it will not work unless you have the file in the INCLUDE folder that is stated in your php.ini

it looks like ur just trying to include the php file but if there is no output from the PHP file then nothin will show up there

Just so you know the page that you are trying to include needs to have its own set of <?php ?> tags other wise it wont execute.

If you still cant get it to work, change hosts.
