PHP n MySQL website in a CD

Is there any free software that will let us run php + Mysql website in a CD?
Well, kinda having the webserver, PHP, and the DBMS inside the CD. Hope u get my point coz I dont really know how to write it. Thanks.

There's a CD called Knoppix which runs Linux on any PC without installing anything (http://www.knoppix.net). However, it's really intended for using a PC without leaving any trace and for data/system recovery - you can copy files onto a disk or CD without accessing the OS at all. As it is, of course, open source, you're free to develop it further.

However, I can't see any way of running a webserver without installing it locally. The CD would have to install a webserver locally --- unless the CD simply connects to a remote webserver equipped with PHP/MySQL and accesses files which are already on the server or uploads files via FTP.

I think the answer is no, but I'm not a reliable source.

well, few weeks ago i have done a search on google and found a software that will do just what I want to do. However, the main problem here is that the software is NOT free.

I havent tried anything like that before but as what I've read from the website (I forgot the address), it is possible.
Anyone?

apache writes/deletes/re-writes files all the time (access logs/locks etc etc)....

I guess you could technically do this if maybe you used some sort of re-writable media?

Talk about slow though....

You would need a pretty fast Cd burner as well in order not to slow Apache down!

Ok, let me put thing straight. 🙂

Let say, I wanna create a product catalog. This catalog would be in the form of a website where user can browse. Now, I have, for example 1500 items to be included in the product catalog.

I prefer to have the catalog available in CD so that my customer can browse it by category. They must be able to search the product using some search criteria, too.

So, in order to browse and search, I must have a lite web server running (without installing in client's computer), php and mysql.
Any free software to help me doing this? or is it possible?

you can create a static htlm site of your hole website.

I have seen someware a script for that thing to do.

I think what he wants to do...Is send his clients a CD, and when they boot from the CD-ROM....Lo and Behold an Interactiev - Self Contained PHP application appears....

You may want to research PHP-GTK to acomplish this rather than running a Web Server..(unknowingly on a clients machine)...Or consider using another language....

I am not aware of any webserver that won't need some kind of write access for temp files...

you can boot straight from cd with that.

you could possibly inverstigate getting the cd to create a RAMDISK when it runs which would provide apache with its space to write to. You would have to investigate how apache binds itself to the localhost address, but I am sure it could all be part of the batch file. It's worth a try anyway.

VB is more flexible in that way or you could just make a java script search engine!
