Regular exp

Ok, i admit i hate reg exp's. So i'll ask you guys for some help if you don't mind.

I have tags containing attributes but i wan't to strip the attributes.

For instance the class and style attrib in the tag

<p>

For doing so i tried the following reg. exp. but it doesn't do the work.

<P+[ a-z0-9]*$>

Can anyone state the correct one.

i want to do this

ereg_replace("<P+[ a-z0-9]*$>", '<P>', $STR);

can i ask what it is for email or username check? or a special you want!

As i stated in my first post:

I have HTML code in a variable, the html-tags like a <p> can stay but attributes like 'class' have to go.

im not sow good at expressions but i think this function is what you are looking for if you wanna breake this ("<P+[ a-z0-9]*$>",
