how can i make a txt file's content 'expire' after 24 hours?
as in, how can i make a txt file containing text that was written to it by a separate function become empty again after 24 hours?

Crontab on *nix or Windows Scheduler on Win. Failing that just check whether 24 hours have passed since you last opened the file, if so then delete contents before doing anything else.

ok...i simply want to delete all text in a .txt file after the duration of 24 hours....thats all

well do esactly as Shrike says, setup a cronjob on server that runs a php script to delete contents of the text file every 24 hours. or have it detect when its over 24 hours old when ever someone goes to your site via index.php and have it delete the contents if over 24 hours.

if thats not what you mean then im totally dunno what you are on about.
