php tags are being ignored.

Ive just installed php4.3.3 with apache 2.0 on windows xp pro. When I run the usual test.php (<? phpinfo(); ?>) everything seems to be working fine. I have a html page with some php embedded, the html page includes a submit button, when this button is pressed a new page appears (which is what i want) but the php tags have been ignored. WHY?????? Could someone please help me out with this.

Are you trying to render the PHP on a .html file? Is this setup in your httpd.conf file to say "render html pages as php"?

Thanks for the reply, not really sure what you mean. I have made some changes to the httpd.conf file, but only the ones in the install instructions. Where would I find render html as php

When you say

Is this a page with a .html extension or a .php extension? If it's .html, and you have a default setup, it won't parse php for you.

OK sorry, its a .html page with php code inside it. The second page is a .php extension. What do I change in the setup to make it parse the php.

in php.ini is "short_open_tag" true of false ?

if it`s false you need to do this:

<?php
phpinfo();
?>

thanks, but ive finally got it working now. I re-installed and followed the install instructions (again), I must have been missing something before.
